AUSTIN, Texas--Nov. 22--The Texas Railroad Commission Friday asked federal authorities to make Union Pacific Railroad sell about 250 miles of track near Houston in order to relieve economically crippling congestion and improve safety on the lines.
The nonbinding plan, approved by a 2-0 vote, calls on the federal Surface Transportation Board to require that UP sell the Houston-to-Iowa Junction line to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad of Fort Worth, the Houston-to-Beaumont line to Texas-Mexican Railroad, and five industrial lines in Houston and Galveston to the Port ...
