Literature has been shaped by technology, represents technology in itself, and is technology. Literature is a technology in that writing developed as a new tool. Without the creation of writing tools and the printing press, literature would have remained oral and maintained oral styles. Different forms of literature were able to develop because of technological advances. Literature reflects technology and its changes over time when authors use and comment on technology in their works.
