The view that the relationship between science and technology is one way, science influencing technology, is being questioned and abandoned for a broader understanding of how the two function together. The cultures of scientists and engineers are not homogeneous but are more interrelated than previously thought. Examination of the languages groups create to interact at the periphery of their areas leads to an understanding of how subcultures and new disciplines are developed.
