When the Rolling Stones launch into "Start Me Up" at Giants Stadium on Oct. 16, no one will be cheering louder than New York's promoters, club managers and theater owners.
The local rock concert business is in dire need of a kick start. Bookings and ticket sales are down everywhere from the Meadowlands to Jones Beach, and even hot acts like Sheryl Crowe are struggling to draw crowds here. Ms. Crowe's Aug. 16 show at Jones Beach Amphitheatre attracted only 8,300 people - 2,400 fewer than the venue's capacity.
