Soybean farmers have responded with remarkable dexterity to more favorable prices this year.
When world market forces ratcheted up demand for soybeans, farmers planted the largest soybean acreage since 1982.The USDA projection on June 30, 1997, anticipated that farmers planted 68.8 million acres, 10 percent more than last year.
Record U.S. soybean plantings were expected for Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas, North Dakota and Wisconsin. This upward trend for soybean planting is in its fifth straight year.
