According to recent research from South Korea, "Galactosemia is caused by defects in the galactose metabolic pathway, which consists of three enzymes, including UDP-galactose-4-epimerase (GALE). We previously reported nine mutations in Korean patients with epimerase-deficiency galactosemia."
