Mumbai, May. 01 -- Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray today blamed the Congress for the backwardness of Maharashtra.

''Today is Maharashtra Day, 49th Foundation Day of the state. On May 1, 1960, Yashwantrao Chavan realised the dream of present Maharashtra. Since then Maharashtra has been depicted as a beautiful, prosperous state in various songs, but the Congress government contributed to the regress of the state instead of progress, and this continues even today,'' Mr Thackeray said in an editorial titled ''Deendubala Maharashtra'' (Weak, helpless Maharashtra) ...
