EFFECTIVE USE OF FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS REQUIRES AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE THERMOMECHANIC BEHAVIOR OF REFRACTORY LINING MATERIALS.
Refractory lining materials can undergo high levels of mechanical stress loading at elevated temperatures. The manner in which a given refractory material behaves under such conditions can affect its ultimate performance in the lining. For this reason, identifying and accurately determining the critical high material properties is important if premature lining failure is to be avoided.
