In 1912, the Titanic was the biggest and most beautiful ship the world had ever seen. The White Star shipbuilders who made her said, "This ship is unsinkable." More than a sixth of a mile long and nearly seven stories tall, the ship wa an elegant floating city.
The Titanic's journey began in Southampton, England. On board were 2,300 passengers going to New York City, where a special pier had been built just for the giant ship.
