NEW YORK _ Time and a thick white beard have hidden the scars from the bullet that ripped into his face during a drug bust gone awry, but the anger that animated Frank Serpico's face 25 years ago, when he defied the Blue Wall of Silence and exposed police corruption, is still there.
Tuesday, Serpico, 61, the maverick detective whose revelations of pay-offs and extortion in the New York Police Department became material for a best selling book and a movie, stepped out of self-imposed obscurity and into the glare of floodlights and cameras at City Hall.
