Dogwood, hydrangea chemicals foil key crop pests.

The Agricultural Research Service conducted an experiment to find natural products from plants that can be used to control major crop pests. It was found that hydrangeas and dogwood leaves contain chemicals that can kill or stunt the growth of corn earworms and fall armyworm. The research agency is planning to do further studies to identify the active insecticidal ingredients on the leaves that are essential in developing a formulation to be used as an insecticide.
