THE monastic settlement at Glendalough was created by St Kevin, who was born about AD 498 and who died in AD 617, at the age of 120.

He had been born into a royal dynasty in Leinster and began training for his holy life when he was a boy.

The three elders who taught him then were based in various locations in Leinster, one of them Glendalough.
