Stanton, a parks service veteran of 30 years, replaces Roger Kennedy as head of the NPS. He began his career with the service in 1962 as a part-time ranger at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. He will oversee 20,000 employees and a park system of 375 units. His annual budget is $1.6 bil.
