Swedish economist and public servant Gunnar Myrdal showed that he had cunning foresight when he wrote 'An American Dilemma' in 1944. In studying the 'American Negro Problem' in 1938, Myrdal was appalled by the racism he found in the US. However, he believed that, although racism is pervasive, the US was not racist at its core.
