WALLSEND Harriers were determined to give it their best shot in their bid to wrest the Sisterson Trophy from Sunderland when they lined up in the final fixture of the Start Fitness North East Harrier League at Temple Park, South Shields.

Despite going into the final round with a six-point cushion over nearest rivals Heaton, Wallsend club captains Mick Skeldon and Bill Todd rallied the troops to such an extent that the North Tyneside outfit fielded 41 athletes in the senior men's race - which could well be a record.
