The Khmer people reached their cultural height in the 10th century and then decline began and eventually they were to become pawns in the violence of Asia as the US in its narrow view sought to conquer communism. The decline of Cambodia, and the role of the Khmer Rouge, and the US is related.

Visitors to Cambodia invariably refer to the people as gentle. Few nations, however, have experienced as much unrelenting violence over the past 30 years.

Many are to blame for this modern horror story, but a good portion can be traced to decisions made in Washington at the end of the 1960s. ...
