Mary Cappello and Wallace Sillanpoa feel the connections between storytelling, fragmented identities, and sexual and political identity need to be explored continuously. Cappello thinks ethnic and sexual identity influence the way gay writers tell stories. Sillanpoa believes gay Italian Americans are uniquely positioned to offer a critique of misogyny. Both regard gay and lesbian studies have divided older and younger scholars.
