Louis XVI doesn't only call itself fine dining, but haute cuisine. The menu introduction talks of King Louis' days of "luxury and frivolity lavished on the privileged few" ... and a "taste of this opulent age where sumptuous cuisine ... and an opera of service are a celebration of life".

High aspirations indeed, and lots to look forward to as we parked in the basement. There's so little fine dining left in Joburg that with each new opening one goes expectantly hoping that maybe, this time, it'll be for real. At the same time, if that's what they say they do, that's ...
