Chanting ``crush, crush, crush Pol Pot and his clique,'' hundreds of Khmer Rouge guerrillas sentenced their infamous leader, who ploughed Cambodia's ``killing fields'' with as many as 2 million victims, to life in prison as he sat silently and nearly in tears, an American journalist who witnessed the scene said Monday.

But some Cambodia analysts were skeptical, refusing to accept what, at first glance, appears to be the downfall of one of history's most brutal dictators. They said they suspected the ``trial'' was a political ploy, possibly engineered by Pol Pot himself, ...
