A model on consumer response to food safety is derived. This model considers four different responses, namely, product avoidance, brand switching, avoiding behavior and mitigation. Such behaviors are influenced such factors as consumer knowledge of food contamination and the consequences of avoiding the importance of contamination effects. Market failures are usually a result of a variance between consumer perception and that of experts.
