THERE WAS a point last season when the Dundalk-Drogheda derby threatened to become a thing of the past.

Drogheda United were teetering on the brink of the abyss having gone through the financial wringer. Yet they survived after an arduous fundraising drive by supporters - not to mention the High Court's comforting arm around the shoulder.

And while many Dundalk fans would have revelled seeing their arch rival's demise, privately many will rejoice that Drogheda have lived to fight on.
