The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that since 1983, 100 fire incidents and 10 deaths has been traced to the widespread use of halogen lamps. This has alarmed Underwriters Laboratories to demand from halogen lamp manufacturers compliance with the standard sets in the issuance of UL approval. Some designers of halogen torcheres try to accommodate the new regulations in their fixture designs. Others use devices such as heat-sensing off switch to prevent fire accidents.

UP-AND-DOWN NIGHT ENDS IN A COLD SPELL FOR LAMP

STARTING UP AGAIN TONIGHT WON'T BE ANYTHING NEW FOR LAMP
The Boston Globe
; Why change? That's the approach Red Sox reliever Dennis Lamp is taking to his first start since 1987. He takes the mound tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers, a team he almost no-hit nine years ago. Moving from reliever to starter won't change Lamp's pregame routine much. He's added a few more
