As a daily reader of both The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press for 40 years, my observations may be helpful as we all attempt to recover from the strike.
It is now obvious the government's unfortunate approval of the 1989 joint operating agreement started the downward spiral of The Detroit News, owned by Virginia-based Gannett, and the Detroit Free Press, owned by Florida-based Knight-Ridder.
