Architect Tadasu Ohe designed the Institute of Environmental Science of the Shiga Prefecture University in Shiga, Japan. The facility is home to a number of several academic departments belonging to fields ranging from biology to studio-based design. The facility was designed to nurture informal personal relationships and the spontaneous exchange of information between the faculty members. There are also references to the area's topography and biology in the design of the facility.
