A study conducted on the Jefferson City, MO, water distribution system reveals that the filtration plant eliminates 99.9% of the HPC bacteria during treatment. A second study also indicated that the plant removes 99.99% of particle-associated bacteria during winter and 99.999% in summer. However, new microbial particle removal processes should be studied since microorganisms may develop ways to avoid present removal methods.
