J.W. Mackail. New York: Dover Publications. 1995. viii + 375 +364 pp., Index, 22 Illustrations. $18.95. Reproduction of the two volume edition published in 1899 by Longmans, Green and Co.
Both these texts are highlights in the extensive celebrations of the centenary of the death of William Morris. The past twenty years have seen increasing attention paid to this nineteenth century figure, and, one hundred years after, there is a growing awareness that Morris can still speak to us as an artist, a thinker, and as a complex and attractive human being.
