Teachers can take a number of steps to improve their ability to address the needs of Native American students. These include becoming aware of their proficiency in English and using peer tutoring and cooperative learning activities to encourage other students to accept them.
Teachers who work with Native Americans in an urban setting need to be aware of what a move to the city means to these students and their families and of how the students' behavior and school performance can be affected, Ms. Little Soldier maintains.
