Weekend revellers in and around Birmingham's Broad Street will no doubt have enjoyed the odd pint or glass of wine in the James Brindley pub over the years. If you have never been, it is a convenient spot in which to take in the bargesmeandering along the canal or watch the urban ducks dabbling in the water.
But the canal pioneer's name has reverberated around the antiques trade for a slightly more sober reason this week, because arare collection of notebooks and maps linked to his work has sold for pounds 6,600 at auction.
