The silverleaf whitefly has been recognized as a serious agricultural problem, inflicting massive losses on crops. A five-year plan intended to control the pest was implemented in 1992. The results were promising although whitefly problems continued to exist. One of the more effective strategies, so far, is the use of IGR's which do not kill the pests by poisoning them but by interfering with the insect's development and maturation, rendering them 'forever young' and unable to reproduce.
