Anabolic steroid use has been recognized to cause adverse changes in blood lipid levels, particularly the high density lipoprotein fraction of cholesterol (HDL-C) (Baldo-Enzi et al., 1990). A recent report suggested the importance of high HDL-C and a satisfactory total cholesterol to HDL-C ratio in preventing future cardiovascular disease (Stampfer, Sacks, Salvini, Willett, & Hennekens, 1991). Apolipoproteins are used also as measures of coronary heart disease risk and provide additional information to serum lipid assessment (Thompson, 1984). Therefore, reports of widespread ...
