It would be no surprise if Anthony Spezia is a one-of-a-kind leader in the healthcare industry-a former turnaround consultant who became a coal company executive, also ran a health insurance company and is now heading a multihospital health system.

But it is an even safer bet that Spezia, 60, president and chief executive officer of seven-hospital Covenant Health, Knoxville, Tenn., is the only 2009 winner of Modern Healthcare's CEO IT Achievement Award with that employment history.
