One of the most expensive and troublesome components in the hvac system is the condensate trap. Past research has blamed trap problems on design deficiencies, inherent trap deficiencies and unwise field practices. To solve condensate trap problems, seal design issues, start-up procedures and maintenance programs need to be examined. Building owners should consider rejecting the condensate trap as the industry standard and replacing it with a reliable and effective drain seal instead.
