NEW YORK -- A decade ago, many major department stores had virtually abandoned the lamp business, ceding it to mass merchants and home centers.

But that is changing. Department stores are putting their imprint on the business and emerging as one of the fastest-growing distribution channels for fashion lamps.

May Co., Macy's, Boscov's and Sears all closed their lamp departments in the past. But now, Macy's and Boscov's have reopened lamp departments in their stores -- they say, with much success. Sears has brought lamps back in its HomeLife stores and has a buyer ...
