Some legislators want the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) abolished. They claim that the NCIPC's firearm injuries research is part of a campaign against legal gun ownership. In 1996, Congress trimmed $2.6 million from the CDC budget.
