Switzerland might be twice the size of New Jersey, but unlike our state, this mountainous country is nowhere near the ocean. To the north and west, France and Germany form the border. To the east and south, Austria and Italy sweep around to join the circle with France to the west. This central location has resulted in the Swiss speaking local varieties of five languages: English, French, German, Italian, and Romansch.
