On-line feedback control for optimal periodic control problems.
|
INTRODUCTION
The usual task of optimal process control is to drive a system to a (possibly known) desired point of operation. However, some chemical reaction schemes (i.e., the Brusselator), and most biological patterns (i.e., circadian cycle) exhibit natural periodic behaviour. This suggests that periodic behaviour can be cost efficient with respect to some meaningful cost function. The optimal periodic control (OPC) problem deals with systems whose performance can be improved by periodic operation as opposed to steady-state operation.
