INTRODUCTION

In recent years, the world's cumene production capacity has increased significantly. This is because more than 90% of the world's phenol demand is met by cumene, which is still the chief starting material. The earlier Friedel-Crafts catalysts and solid phosphoric acid catalysts used for alkylation reactions are almost being replaced by zeolite catalysts to avoid environmental and corrosion problems.
