Gotland Oil Inc. Protests California Crackdown on Water Pollution.(Originated from The Bakersfield Californian)

Feb. 28--For 30 years, it was just fine to dump wastewater from two small oilfields near Wasco into a dozen unlined sumps.
But as of Nov. 22, 1996, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board said that practice is a no-no and the oil company currently operating those fields must find another way to get rid of the 1 million gallons of so-called "produced" water coming up from its 67 oil wells each year.
Gotland Oil Inc., the small independent operating most of the Semitropic and Wasco fields, responded with more than a little anger.
