Providence Journal Co. Shareholders Approve Sale to A.H. Belo Corp.(Originated from The Providence Journal-Bulletin, R.I.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Feb. 20--Providence Journal Co. shareholders yesterday voted overwhelmingly in favor of a plan to sell the company to the A.H. Belo Corp. of Dallas for about $1.5 billion in stock and cash.
The vote came amid a sometimes impassioned debate over the merits of the deal, and a plea by some shareholders who asserted that a vote "against" would keep the Journal Company and its Providence Journal-Bulletin newspaper independent and under local control.
