A Lacanian reading of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's poem "The Mirror" adds to our understanding of Rossetti's insights into human desire. J. Hillis Miller uses some Lacanian language to discuss the poem but does not follow through with a Lacanian reading (339). Martin Danahay refers to the poem as "a nineteenth-century version of Jacques Lacan's 'Mirror Stage'" (38), but ultimately uses Derrida, rather than Lacan, as a theoretical vehicle to discuss Rossetti's portrayal of desire.
