Lorenzo Feininger is known to musicologists mainly for his editions in original clefs of Masses on the L'Homme arme tune and of the cycle of Mass propers he attributed to Guillaume Dufay. A learned man of many interests, manuscripts, books, and sacred music marked his life. He served on the staff of the Vatican Library and Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music and cofounded, in 1947, the Societas Universalis Sanctae Caeciliae, dedicated to the cataloguing and editing of early sacred music.
