TAIPEI, Dec 29 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's agricultural authorities plan to revitalize 60,000 hectares of fallow farmland in 2009 to increase food production, a senior agriculture official disclosed Friday.

Yu Sheng-feng, deputy director-general of the Agriculture and Food Agency under the Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture, said the plan to revitalize the fallow land has been submitted to the Cabinet for consideration.

Noting that Taiwan currently has 220,000 hectares of farmland lying idle, Yu said his agency hopes to allow food crops to be grown on 60,000 ...
