The director of a new MBL Systematics-Ecology Program at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution discusses his approach to getting the program up and running. The search for the marine flora and fauna of the Eastern part of the country encountered a dearth of literature, particularly in the area of identification, as well as other obstacles that needed to be circumvented. Setting up the program also dealt with the politics of the program's institutional sponsorship.
