The popularity of stainless steel in residential kitchens is extending into the portable appliances market. Because stainless is more expensive than other metals, it gives suppliers a chance to raise their price points. The average stainless steel breadmaker, for example, can cost $10 more than one made of another material. Salton/Maxim Housewares Inc, Regal Ware Inc, and Welbilt are among the companies offering stainless portable appliances.
