A few years ago, not many people familiar with war torn and economically exhausted Ethiopia would have believed the current goods news about export sales of the nation's coffee. With peace and economic reform, Ethiopia has been rapidly recovering its place as an important producer of coffee in volume, and as an unequaled source for a wide array of both industrial and gourmet coffees.

In the crop year 1995/96, ending as of September 30, Ethiopia exported 102,000 tons of coffee. This is an all-time record high export level. It marks a gain of 23.1% over the volume of crop year ...
