Although modern dance started as refutation of classical ballet, many contemporary modern dance troupes have been influenced by the classical tradition. However, the dance troupes of Murray Louis and Alwin Nikolais are an exception. They follow in the German expressionist style.

You must have noticed while attending dance concerts recently or even not so recently, for, for this seems to have been going on for some years now--that American modern dance is adopting a classic slant.
