KARACHI
"THE Benazir chapter is closed" and "Mohajirs will get their rights" say some of the fresh graffiti painted in the heart of Karachi. Like the rest of the country, the city is bracing for a general election on February 3rd. The struggle in Karachi is peculiarly intense, because it is both Pakistan's commercial capital and the headquarters of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM), an ethnic political group, whose struggle with the government of Benazir Bhutto, removed from office by Pakistan's president last November, was often violent.
