TAMPA, Fla.--Jan. 16--A willing buyer is waiting in the wings for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co. But creditors of the container ship company, which has been under bankruptcy protection since October 1995, hope an even bigger offer will come along.

Last week, U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Tampa gave competing bidders until Valentine's Day to make an offer on Lykes' assets.
