An overview of emergency surgical treatment for open tibial fractures is presented. Fractures of the lower leg and foot often occur from car accidents, falls from heights, gunshot wounds and farm machinery accidents and they require immediate care because of the risk of infection. These kinds of wounds are classified by severity and determine the nature of the ensuing trauma surgery.
