Blue grosbeak
(Guiraca caerulea)
Special in the bird world because of its spectacular blue coloration, the blue grosbeak is common across the southern half of the United States.
Its northern range extends through the Great Plains to the southern border of North Dakota.
At 6 to 7 inches long, it has a large, conical bill, and rust or buff-colored wing bars accenting its blue body.
Blue grosbeaks form flocks in late summer and fall before beginning their migration.
The nest is a cup of grass, rootlets and tree stems constructed 2 to 14 feet ...
